PEFC
The Programme for the Endorsement of Forest Certification (PEFC) is an international non-profit, non-governmental organization dedicated to promoting Sustainable Forest Management (SFM) through independent third-party certification. It is founded thanks the Pan European Criteria for sustainable forest management as defined by the Helsinki and Lisbon Ministerial Conferences of 1993 and 1998 on the Protection of Forests in Europe.
The servcie we provide
Ecocert Environment (formerly Ecopass), an Ecocert subsidiary, propose you the PEFC certification, which guarantee:
- Biodiversity of forest ecosystems is maintained or enhanced.
- The range of ecosystem services that forests provide is sustained.
- Chemicals are substituted by natural alternatives or their use is minimized.
- Workers' rights and welfare are protected.
- Local employment is encouraged.
- Indigenous peoples' rights are respected
The European countries and the European Community have agreed on six common criteria:
- Maintenance and appropriate enhancement of forest resources and their contribution to global carbon cycles.
- Maintenance of forest ecosystem health and vitality.
- Maintenance and encouragement of productive functions of forests (wood and non-wood).
- Maintenance, conservation and appropriate enhancement of biological diversity in forest ecosystems.
- Maintenance and appropriate enhancement of protective functions in forest management (notably soil and water).
- Maintenance of other socio-economic functions and conditions.
